Myrtle Craig (Mowbray) from the class of 1907 was the first African American woman to graduate from the institution, receiving a bachelor of science in home economics. Mowbray was one of four black students on campus and the only black woman. She was handed her diploma by President Theodore Roosevelt, an honored guest visiting campus, and went on to pursue a career as an educator.
