Associate Dean opening in the Graduate School

The Graduate School invites applicants and seeks nominations to fill an Associate Dean position. The successful applicant will have an AN appointment with between 40% and 60% in the Graduate School, with the additional appointment remaining in the individual’s tenure-home or other assignment. The position reports directly to the Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School. Duties of the position include supporting the implementation of the Graduate School strategic plan (available here: https://grad.msu.edu/strategicplan), with a particular focus on working collaboratively on the Objectives in Goal Area 1 as well as Objective 3.3, providing leadership in graduate program review, supporting training grant and other research and programmatic initiatives tied to graduate student development, and coordinating teams for extramural grant proposals. Additional responsibilities will include providing administrative support, such as evaluating approvals requests from units concerning committee composition, time extensions, and waivers. The associate dean will work collaboratively on graduate student career and professional development activities with all Graduate School staff, and will actively participate in state, regional and national organizations focused on graduate education.

Required Degree

Doctorate -STEM or Medical Field

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent degree, in a STEM or Medical field. Qualifications other than degree: Applicants must currently hold a tenured position at Michigan State University, preferably as full professor. A candidate must have a strong demonstrated commitment to graduate education that comports with the values of the Graduate School and experience in successfully working with and mentoring graduate students.

Desired Qualifications

Administrative competence, ideally related to graduate education, and an established scholarly record. Academic governance knowledge/experience is desirable.
