We seek a tenured faculty member to serve as an Associate Dean in the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of Undergraduate Studies (APUE), joining a team of administrators and educators who are committed to improving student learning and success at Michigan State University. The primary responsibility of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies will be to coordinate the APUE’s efforts to analyze and reform the university’s curriculum in preparation for the implementation of flat rate tuition and a new student
information system (SIS).
The ideal candidate will have had experience with curricular reform and/or academic governance at the department, college, or university level at MSU and will be deeply committed to undergraduate and graduate student learning, diversity and inclusion, closing opportunity gaps, increasing persistence and graduation rates, and reducing the cost of degree. This is an excellent opportunity for a faculty member to move into or move more deeply into administrative work and make a major contribution to student learning and success at MSU.
This is tentatively planned as a half-time position reporting to the APUE and, when applicable issues arise, to the Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of Graduate Studies. The position will include membership on the steering committee of the Student Information System project and collaboration with APUE’s efforts to lead the implementation of flat rate tuition. We are open to discussing the variety of different arrangements possible in helping the successful candidate balance the duties of this position with other professional responsibilities.
Compensation could include course buyouts, summer salary, and/or an administrative increment. We ask for a two-year commitment. We welcome nominations and self-nominations, and we hope to move as quickly as possible in identifying candidates. Questions and nominations or self-nominations should be directed to Mark Largent at largent@msu.edu . Nominees will be contacted and invited to submit a short application that will be reviewed by a committee, which will make hiring recommendations to the APUE.
